1985–1999[]

Visuals: Same as the 1984 variant of the 1978 CBS-FOX Video/Fox Video/20th Century Fox Home Entertainment warning, but it has a rocky, black and white Video Treasures wallpaper background.

Variant: From 1985-1989, the early variant on a bright red background was used.

Technique: A digital graphic with fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Very common. The 1989 variant is especially easy to find, having been used for longer. However, it does not appear on Video Treasures releases distributed by Media Home Entertainment; those releases feature Media's FBI warning screen instead. Also, it appears on 1997-1999 VHS releases from Anchor Bay Entertainment, including Zombie.

1985–1990 (Alternate)[]

Visuals: Same as the 1981 Media Home Entertainment/Heron/Hi-Tops warning.

Technique: A digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Common; it can be found on some Video Treasures release from the era. It was last seen on The Legend of Boggy Creek. It surprisingly appeared on the 1989 Burbank Video release of The Lone Ranger when this was distributed by Video Treasures.

1985-2005 (MCA/Universal eras)[]

Visuals: Same as the early variant of the 1980 MCA/Universal Home Video warning.

Variant: From 1990-2000, as well as on DVDs, the 1988 variant is used.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Video Treasures/Anchor Bay Entertainment releases of Universal Studios films.

1989-1992 (PolyGram Video eras)[]

PolyGram Video 1980s Warning

Visuals: Same as the 1982 PolyGram Video warning.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on PolyGram-distributed Video Treasures titles that have PolyGram's 1982 logo after Video Treasures', such as Endless Love.

1990-1993; 1997 (Media Home Entertainment eras)[]

Visuals: Same as the 1986 Media Home Entertainment/Heron/Hi-Tops warning.

Audui: None.

Availability: Common. It can be seen on Media-distributed Video Treasures titles. Surprisingly, it was also seen on a 1997 reissue of Hero and the Terror, which features Media's logo after the one for Video Treasures. More surprisingly, the 1997 reissue of Final Impact shows this warning, but not its original 1992 release.

August 17, 1994-1995 (Live Home Video/Live Entertainment eras)[]

Vidmark-IVE-Live-FHE-Avid-Artisan (Warning)

Visuals: Same as the early variant of the 1988 IVE/FHE/Live/Artisan warning.

Technique: A digital graphic with fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Extremely rare. It appears on Live Entertainment-distributed Video Treasures titles, such as the original 1994 VHS of Cinderfella (the 2000 print has the ninth warning).

1995-1997 (Strand Home Video eras)[]

Availability: Uncommon. It appears on Strand-distributed Video Treasures titles.

November 12, 1996-1999[]

Elite-Entertainment-2002-DVD-Warning-Screen

Visuals: Same as the 1996 Elite Entertainment warning.

Technique: A digital graphic with fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on early Video Treasures and Anchor Bay DVDs and first appeared on the 1996 VHS of Baron Blood in place of the first warning.

1999–2007[]

Visuals: Almost the same as the the 1998 Rhino Home Video warning, except the background is over a blue-tinted island resembling the Anchor Bay logo, "FBI WARNING" is red, the FBI seal is gone, and the text is in Helvetica font

Variant: Depending on the format, the text would either mention "videocassette" or "DVD."

Technique: A digital graphic with fading effects.

Audio: None.

Audio Variant: On Mr. Bill DVDs, an orchestral fanfare is heard.

Availability: Very common. It can be seen on Anchor Bay VHS and DVD releases from this time period, such as the majority of the Anchor Bay-era Thomas & Friends videos, many of the films of Werner Herzog, Lucio Fulci, and Dario Argento, Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except, Tender Mercies, The Alec Guinness Collection, and Me, Eloise. Blue Underground reissues of some films previously released by Anchor Bay, such as Suspiria, Hell of the Living Dead, Zombi, and Maniac, plaster this with their own warning.

1999-2002 (Disney eras)[]

Visuals: Same as the 1997 variant of the 1984 Buena Vista/Walt Disney warning.

Technique: A digital graphic with fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Anchor Bay releases of material licensed from Disney, such as Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Black Hole, and Duel in the Sun.

2006-August 22, 2017[]

Visuals: Almost the same as the Blu-ray variant of the 2004 Sony Pictures Home Entertainment warning, except the text "FBI WARNING" replaces the FBI Anti-Piracy seal.

Technique: A digital graphic with fading effects.

Audio: None.

Availability: Exclusive to Anchor Bay and ETR Media Blu-ray releases.

2007–2016[]

Visuals: Same as the 1997 Trimark warning.

Technique: A digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on newer Anchor Bay releases, such as The Grand, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, Last Chance Harvey, The Men Who Stare at Goats, Mother's Day, Girls Against Boys, Free Fall, and the last DVDs of Thomas & Friends distributed by the company before Lionsgate (which would later fold Anchor Bay) took over distribution. Also seen on releases from Starz Home Entertainment from 2007-08.

March 13, 2007–November 22, 2016[]

Visuals: Same as the 2005 Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment FBI Anti-Piracy Warning screen.

Variant:

  • On Eloise DVDs (except for Eloise Goes To School which used the Disney variant), the Fox warning is used.
  • On the 2011 DVD of Catch .44, the background and the text are different.
  • On 2007-2011 Anchor Bay DVDs of Columbia Pictures/Tristar Pictures films and TV shows licensed from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, the 2004-2012 Sony Pictures Home Entertainment warning is used.

Availability: Was first seen at the beginning of Eloise in Hollywood and Eloise Goes to School. It was later seen on all Weinstein Company films distributed by Anchor Bay from that time.

December 2016–August 22, 2017[]

Audio: None.

Availability: Very rare, as this was seen on the final releases distributed by Anchor Bay before their closure, such as the second season of Ash vs. Evil Dead.

2001–2006[]

Visuals: On a black background is the word "WARNING" in an Arial font. Below it are two paragraphs of warning text in the same font, except smaller.

Variant: Depending on the format, the specific appearance of the warning screen would differ.

Technique: A digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Appears on some Anchor Bay Entertainment VHS and DVD releases in the UK, mostly those of films before distribution went to Arrow Video. Seen on original prints of cult classics such as Withnail and IThe Evil Dead, Heathers, Elvira: Mistress of the DarkTime BanditsHouseRe-Animator, Tenebrae and The Adventures of Tintin DVDs, among other titles. Some DVD releases, however, contain the Universal warnings, while some VHS releases instead contain the later Telstar Video Entertainment warning.
