May 2, 1980-April 28, 1983[]

ID: A neon-esque sign with "NEXT ON" written is against three gray lines. It positions itself to the top as it shines. Below, the movie title and some of its actors fade in, with the text in a light blue-ish color. They disappear a few seconds later, and a similar sign, this time with "HBO" written on it positions itself right below the "NEXT ON" sign. All of this is against a black background.

Variants:

  • On non-movie programming and documentaries, no actors are shown.
  • Sometimes, the font would be different.

FX/SFX: The shining text and the sign movements.

Music/Sounds: A game-show like fanfare plays as an announcer (male or female) gives a brief description of the forthcoming movie, then ending it off with "[NAME OF MOVIE], next (on HBO)!"

Music/Sounds Variant: Sometimes, the name of the movie would be brought up during the description instead of just before "next!"

Availability: See previous bumper.

Editor's Note: While it comes in rather suddenly, it's a well-remembered bumper amongst HBO viewers of the era.
